Only seven days until our due date. All odds point to going past the due date, because first time mothers often do, but I'm hoping not. I'm ready to meet this little girl.
Currently, we're in AR awaiting the arrival of our daughter. At 37 weeks, we made the trip to spend one more week with my family before Olivia came. When we got here, we learned there was a possibility of us getting snowed in, and also just the ever-looming possibility of labor just spontaneously happening. So, we started searching for options "just in case."
Well now our plans have changed. Yes, we were snowed in. No, we're not anymore, but we're not going back to TN until we have our daughter to take with us. Josh and I are really excited about a midwife we found. She's delivered several of my pastor's children, and has had a lot of experience in our area. Just speaking with her, a peace settled over me.
So, our birthing plan is this:
We are having a "home birth" 4 blocks from a hospital that is very accepting of midwife practices and natural childbirth. Although it was not originally planned, there will be no epidural or pain relief other than OTC Tylenol (which will probably be taken). There will be a jacuzzi in which I can labor (which has been shown to significantly reduce pain and relax the mother - even to a point to of speeding some labors). Anyone I want to be there with me is allowed, even though I'm just planning on my mom and Josh for labor/delivery. I will be allowed to move and reposition as much as I want. I can walk around, kneel, squat - anything - to help with labor pains.
I know I will make it through this and in the end there is a great reward. I can't wait to meet our daughter!
Prayers would be appreciated! = )
